Overprint steals the show in this previously unpublished survey from the 1980s. The jury were unable to entirely fathom the nature of this survey, but in visual terms this book is a real treat. This is Risograph printing at a very high level, and effectively used to boot. Each page consists of a grid within which colour splashes dance in one, two or three (out of a total of twenty-three) colours, partly overlapping one another. Moving through the book, the compositions become ever more complex and the overprint ever more exciting. The approach is programmatic, the result hypnotic. The square format nicely corresponds to the grid shape on the pages. This book not only makes a sophisticated impression on the eye, it is also extremely attractive as a tactile experience thanks to the uncoated thickening paper and the flexible cover with screen printing and blind embossing. Feeling this embossing, a tight pattern of dots, in combination with the screen-printed splashes of colour, gives a visual-tactile sensation that resonates well with the experience of the book as a whole. In a limited, signed print-run of one hundred copies, including a separate print, this is a beautiful special edition for a discerning readership.
