The material translation of the concept is striking in Aluk to Dolo. The colonial history between Indonesia and the Netherlands is investigated through the intimate lens of family history in elements such as the folded dust jacket and the portrait the folds produce, and the choice of red both in the binding and typography. The organizational structure of the book reflects the intended exploratory journey for the reader, both encouraging the reader to sift through the material themselves while guiding the reader with a clear narrative. The variety in layout using typography, imagery, and elements of red create visual interest while feeling balanced and logical in their application. However, the student jury agrees that the typesetting of the justified text blocks could use some revision. The material object and design are a truly comprehensive mouthpiece for the narrative.
