This catalogue caused some major differences of opinion amongst the panel, with fierce detractors pitched against fervent adherents. Brilliantly and consistently carried through, according to the adherents, with exciting photography and sharp design. The detractors would have preferred to see more ‘non-design’. The counterargument is the danger of nostalgia. Incidentally everyone was agreed that the book was too quick to snap shut. Technically it hasn’t been properly put together: a different rhythm with smaller sections would have been better, so the designer ought to have gone either for smaller sections or for thinner paper, and should then have adjusted the design accordingly. The photography is so clinical that there was a fleeting doubt as to whether this was real furniture! The panel were keen to reward the fact that here was a commercial enterprise putting its head on the block of graphic design with such understated presentation. In the end everyone was in favour!
