A publication from the Jan van Eyck Academie, Maastricht, on the subject of Yugoslav Black Wave cinema: films of the sixties and seventies that were then socially and politically highly engaged but are now too little known.
The book is convincing in its modesty and well attuned to the subject in its design. The cover of paper folded double, the paper chosen for the book block, and the manner of its binding all add up to a volume that lies well in the hand with pages that fall open easily.
The lucid typography has two textual layers, one printed in black, the other in red. The matt paper alternates with glossy paper cut slightly short so as to create an entertaining effect at the fore-edge. Most of the photographs are printed in black on the glossy paper, the rest in red on the matt.
