That Misha Mengelberg is a gifted musician we already knew, but that he is also the creator of such unusual texts and images is less well known. It’s great to find this out from such a handsomely produced book, an invitation to read if ever there was one.

We lacked the time to read it all, but happily there is also some poetry here and that was doable. Leafing on, we found some nice little drawings, ten of which we had already seen on the cover, photographs, and plenty of text in nice classical typography. All provided with a black or beige hard cover and in a modest format. In addition to the main print run of 1,000 there were also fifty copies with ribbon marker – as a business gift?

A book that prompted little argument, nothing wrong with it. But that sounds rather dismissive: no, this is a wonderful vehicle for some surprising work.
