A catalogue of selected works by photographer Ed van der Elsken at an exhibition in the Annet Gelink Gallery, Amsterdam, guest curated by Marlene Dumas, Rineke Dijkstra and Marijke van Warmerdam. There was little argument about it: simply well done – in fact, more than simply well done.
Good format, nicely stiff matt paper, the whole held together by two staples and an additional third for the inner book proper, which has a number of strong red pages which with the yellow cover fold-outs serve to counterbalance the mass of monochrome.
The yellow fold-outs are also where all the technical and ancillary information is to be found. Nice intuitive placing of the photos and oversized typography, with every now and then the short text ‘Look. Ed!’, handwritten on the cover; some thought this unnecessary. Otherwise there was nothing but praise for this book.
