In this interrogatory publication, drawings wonderfully capture the modest nature of the protagonist in question, Nick Drake. Danielle Lemaire’s truly beautiful drawings have been printed in a lovely ‘open’ manner, retaining a sense of their materiality. The combination of the smooth Lessebo and the much rougher Forever Pink make for an intriguing interior. And the fact that additional information is hidden away in as-yet-unopened folded and perforated pages is a well-chosen means of veiling in relation to the theme. Drake is presented in book form, ready and waiting to be discovered by you, the reader.
Owing to the lockdown, the exhibition of the drawings in Stedelijk Museum Breda was, at the time of writing, not yet open to the public. All the more fortunate then that we have this book. And that, thanks in part to its generous proportions, we can already gain some impression of what it will be like to take in the exhibition.
