Amsterdam Photos - Andrea Müller-Schirmer, Bianca Stigter, Jan Pieter Ekker

Amsterdam Photos has a completely logical form and exhibits a deep respect for its content. The original medium for this collection of photographs, taken by cinematographer Robby Müller and which appeared in Dutch daily newspaper Het Parool in 2019 and 2020, has been taken as the lead element of the design. The vast majority of the interior is printed on newspaper (by rotary printing) and the format is also in line with what you would expect of a newspaper. The only things that make this ‘paper’ into a book, are the somewhat sturdier cover and the first, orange, pages of the interior containing a text section. The inside of the cover is a mirrored surface that allows you to see your own reflection – a playful contrast with the light-absorbing, matte newspaper. As a package, this does precisely enough to lend the collection of photos a non-ephemeral feel, without taking away from the expressive, accessible photography.
