33 – The Best Dutch Book Designs 2020 was designed by Tessa van der Waals. She reviews the selection of 33 books on the basis of 33 themes ‘reflecting the many properties of the book as object. From the exterior to the interior, from the texture of the paper, through the ink and the printing to the binding’.

This book is a tribute to the craft of bookmaking. An ode to the creators.

The catalogue itself is also the result of the collaboration and dedication of a team, headed this year by  Van der Waals. A big thank you to photographer Harold Strak, editor-in-chief Dorine Duyster, as well as printers Tielen, NPN printers, RaddraaierSSP, robstolk®, Wilco Art Books, Zwaan Lenoir and bookbinders Patist and Herman van Waarden.

The paper was supplied by Igepa Nederland (also a sponsor), the foil by Klaassenspapier Zaltbommel and the foil stamps by Hermans Rotterdam.
