- To be eligible for selection a book must fulfil at least two of the three following requirements. Irrespective of the language in which it is published, it must have been:|
a. published by a publisher established in the Netherlands;
b. designed (design and lay-out) by a person of Dutch nationality or resident in the Netherlands;
c. printed by a printing business and/or lithographed by a lithography business and/or bound by a binding business established in the Netherlands. - An edition must be capable of being produced mechanically. Editions that can only be made by hand are excluded from participation.
- An edition must be capable of being sold; an ISBN is not required for this.
- An artist’s book is not eligible for participation; by artist’s book, we mean a work of art in book form over which the artist retains full creative control and which has a very limited print run, ranging from a single unique copy to a small edition of no more than 25 copies.
5. On registering for the selection the registrant must donate to the Foundation two copies of each work; seven further copies must be provided if a work is selected as one of the Best Dutch Book Designs. These copies are stored in various archives and used for different exhibitions. For more details read the Rules.
6. Entry fee: the registrant pays €75 for the first title and €50 for each further title. Students or first-year alumni of art schools and colleges can submit their entry for free.
