Everything is a Projection - Sheung Yiu, Hanan Mahbouba (interview)

My personal number one! What an incredible concept, what an incredible execution. Now let me explain why I think this is the case. I was in wonder of the method Yiu found to take ‘the everyday’, in this case every single physical object that could be found on his desk (81 items to be exact) and convert this into digital 3D models. Yiu did this in a time where we, as a society, were all homebound, during the worldwide pandemic. The attention to detail in the approach of analyzing every individual object, to then find a way to document and organize all the gathered data (in order to then transform said data into the digital world), was done so structured and insightful in my opinion. (It honestly scratched a certain itch in my brain; almost like ASMR, but then in a book-kind-of-way!?) The book cover was designed cleverly as well, showing the silhouettes of several objects only, with no further details about them yet. This aspect made me, as a reader, very curious what the book was about, upon holding it for the very first time. Yet when I turned to book on its side, showing the spine, I was surprised to find a fully written list of all the 81 different items that were on Sheung Yiu his desk! What a smart way to repurpose the book its spine, which is usually used for the title + writer of the book alone.
