Using colored sections to divide the content into three parts, we discover the work of Samia Henni, who investigated French nuclear weapons testing in the Algerian Sahara between 1960 and 1966, revealing the lasting environmental and human impacts. Drawing on 600 pages of declassified, leaked and smuggled archive documents, the book illustrates the ways in which colonial violence was imprinted on landscapes and bodies. It is both a historical document and an essential tool for understanding the links between nuclear energy, colonialism and resistance. The jury appreciated the dynamic way in which the archive images are structured, and the way in which the colors convey a faded, almost asphyxiating atmosphere.
