This book of seven newly versified fables in rap rhythm split the panel three ways. Faction 1 liked it. Faction 2 thought it was downright ugly. Faction 3 thought it was ugly, but deemed a purely aesthetic opinion in this case irrelevant. It was this third group that created enough support for Roodkapje was een Toffe Meid (Little Red Riding Hood Was One Cool Babe) to be included in the elite corps.

For both adults and children this is a fresh acquaintance with seven familiar fables, a variation on a theme. It is aimed at children who already know the stories from a more protective environment. The question remains whether children like this kind of thing or whether it is a matter of adults thinking children like it. But then that is the question with most children’s books.

However, the evident pleasure that this book exudes through every pore is a persuasive recommendation for adults and children alike. The CD with the raps and their karaoke versions is cunningly incorporated into the front cover in a cardboard tray that slides smoothly away under a transparent window.
