Student research from the Tabula Scripta research group has been collated in an extremely classy way in this series of cahiers. The way these have been arranged here shows great dexterity, as each cahier is unique within the whole. This bundling of sections was a good reason to opt for an open-spine binding throughout. The cold gluing has been correctly carried out – no mean feat in such a (nicely) rigid book, with considerable weight differences in the papers used.
The whole has been subjected to a marvellous edit. The sophisticated grid and the pleasant paper types result in lots of variation, create a block that is easy to navigate through and at the same time make for a far from monotone book. The graphical cover is most attractive, layered both in form and in print. The jacket folded in the American style is itself a waste sheet for the body. This sheet has been screen- printed with fields of opaque white, which have been overprinted in red and black. The title is a cut-out in the red field, so this appears in white. In addition to being an intelligent solution, this results in a range of different, exciting and unique covers. Demonstrating exactly the kind of professional skill the research group has been studying closely all these years.
