The panel thought the form of this book an excellent choice. The warm yellow has been used to beautiful effect, giving the whole a certain charge – for this warm, cheerful colour has nothing to do with the subject: life in the area surrounding Chernobyl thirty years after the nuclear disaster. Here the use of colour tempers the grey sadness of the subject. The nature photography is superb. A book divided into three sections, without bells or whistles and in which the right choices have been made: from the paper to the illustrations and from the cover photo to the desolate title on the spine.
